SEARCY - Bemidji State scored the game's first nine runs and defeated Harding 12-4 on Tuesday in non-conference baseball action at Jerry Moore Field. The game was the 10th on the Bisons' current 17-game homestand.
Bemidji State (2-13), on a nine game trip through Kansas and Arkansas, won its second straight. The Beavers defeated Missouri Western 5-4 on Monday. Bemidji State's 12-run outburst was a season high.
Harding (18-8) lost for only the fourth time in 21 home games this season. The Bisons open Gulf South Conference play Saturday with a noon doubleheader against Southern Arkansas.
Bemidji State scored five runs on four hits off Harding starter Brett Lovett (0-1). In his first start of the season, Lovett lasted 2.0 innings and allowed six runs (five earned). The Beavers scored two runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings and led 11-3 after five.
Harding used six pitchers in the game and struck out 10 hitters but allowed eight walks.
Bemidji State right-hander Tony Meech (1-1) entered the game with a 16.20 earned run average but went the distance for the Beavers. He allowed 11 hits but walked only one. Meech did not strike out a batter.
Dare Saul, Will McDonald, and Ryan Moody each had two hits for Harding. Brian Simon had two hits and drove in three for Bemidji State.
